Chandigarh, July 16

After Chandigarh Tribune published a picture of a UT police vehicle found parked on a pedestrian path in violation of the Punjab and Haryana High Court order, the traffic police issued a TVIS (traffic violation information slip) challan.

The traffic police had started issuing challans to owners of vehicles found parked on pedestrian paths. However, a police vehicle was found violating traffic norms near the Police Headquarters in Sector 9 on Monday.

More than 12,000 TVIS challans for various offences have already been issued by the UT police this year. The challans are issued on the basis of pictures received on the police WhatsApp number, Twitter and Facebook account.
