Mohali, July 14

To check any untoward incident of fire in factories and industrial units across the district, the local administration is all set to carry out a comprehensive fire safety audit soon.

An order in this regard has been issued by Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dyalan while presiding over a meeting of the Disaster Management Committee at District Administrative Complex, Sector 76, here today.

“The step has been taken to check safety measures on the premises of factories and industrial units and ascertain their readiness in the face of eventuality,” said Dayalan and added that all industrialists would require to furnish a self declaration in this regard that they had ensured all required arrangements to guard against any such incident.

The exercise aimed at ensuring foolproof fire arrangements to guard against any loss of precious life and not to harass the industrial unit owners, he added.

Expressing concern over the recent incident of fire at a chemical factory in Dera Bassi, the DC said such incidents should not be repeated. The industrial units would also be provided technical know-how in this regard.

The DC also directed the officials concerned to prepare a list of units that had fire tenders so that these could be employed in case of any requirement.
