Punjabi folk, ‘dying’ arts come alive on stage

CHANDIGARH:In their endeavour to promote and propagate rich Punjabi folk and musical arts, including those on the verge of extinction, Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi had planned eight summer workshops in the state.

In their endeavour to promote and propagate rich Punjabi folk and musical arts, including those on the verge of extinction, Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi had planned eight summer workshops in the state. 

PSNA secretary Pritam Rupal said following three workshops of about three weeks each, involving 102 learners, were concluded after their performances at Randhawa Auditorium here today.

Folk music workshop on ‘waar’, ‘kali’, ‘kavishri’ and folk songs was attended by 35 budding singers. 

It was conducted by Hardyal Thuhi at Nabha while 22 singers learnt the dying ritual songs under Karamjit Kaur at Mohali. 

The training for more significant folk dances like bhangra, ‘sammi’, ‘luddi’, ‘jhoomar’ and more was conducted by Bhola Kalehari at Punjab Kala Bhavan.

All 102 amateur artists and learners performed at a function held at Randhawa Auditorium. 

Prominent Punjabi film actor Karamjit Anmol was the chief guest while Balkar Sidhu, secretary CSNA, presided over the event.
