Chandigarh, June 19

An immigration agent has been booked by the local police for allegedly duping a Mohali resident of Rs 3.23 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.

According to the police, complainant Parminder Singh, a resident of Sohana, Mohali, alleged that Rajwinder Singh of Victoria Success Overseas, Sector 37, took Rs 3.23 lakh from him in 2017 on the pretext of sending him to Canada.

However, the immigration agent did not send him abroad. In 2018, the agent agreed to return the money and gave him a cheque for Rs 1.40 lakh in November. However, the cheque was dishonored by the bank citing insufficient funds. The victim then approached the police following which a case under Section 420 of the IPC and Section 24 of the Immigration Act was registered. — TNS
