Mohali, April 19

The Sohana police station head, Inspector Daljeet Singh, who has been placed under suspension for failing to act promptly in a rape complaint, was booked under Section 166 A (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury to any person) of the IPC at the same police station here today.

Inspector Daljeet Singh was placed under suspension a couple of days ago as he allegedly failed to act on a complaint of the victim, who was allegedly raped in a car on a deserted road near Sambhalki village on April 16. “Moreover, he did not inform senior officials after the matter was reported at the police station,” said a Punjab Police official. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the cop.

Daljeet Singh was a sarpanch before he joined the Punjab Police on compassionate grounds in 2000 after his father, who was a DSP, was killed by terrorists. He was allegedly facing a criminal case, which he did not reveal to the authorities at the time of his recruitment. He was reportedly facing another departmental inquiry on a complaint of his colleague.

Daljeet Singh claimed that there was no lapse on his part in the case. — TNS
