Chandigarh, March 18

The formation of committees for recommending terms and conditions for a parking contract and supervising works of agencies carrying out sanitation work in the city has been put on hold.

MC Commissioner KK Yadav has sought approval of the Election Commission before issuing a formal order for the formation of these committees.

Sources said Mayor Rajesh Kalia had recently forwarded the names of councillors to be included in the two committees.

With the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections in force, the MC Commissioner has sent the files to the Secretary, Local Government, seeking approval of the Election Commission.

Former Mayor Arun Sood has been proposed as the chairman of the committee to give recommendations for framing the terms and the conditions of the new parking contract.

The decision to call fresh tenders for running 25 paid parking lots and a multi-level parking in the city was taken after cancellation of an agreement with M/s Arya Toll Infra Ltd. It was also decided to form a committee of MC officials and councillors for framing the draft of the new terms and conditions. The draft will be discussed in the House meeting after the code of the conduct ends.

The other committee has been proposed under the chairmanship of Shakti Praksh Devsali. Councillors Bharat Kumar, Sat Prakash Agarwal and Ravinder Kaur Gujral, and Deputy Mayor Kanwar Jit Singh Rana were proposed as other members of the panel.

The MC House, during its last meeting, had allowed formation of the two committees after discussing the related issues. Councillors were angry over the poor ranking of the city in the Swachh Survekshan-2019 and demanded formation of a committee to supervise sanitation works in the city.
