Newlywed woman abducted by family

A newlywed woman, who had married against the wishes of her family, was allegedly abducted by her family members from near the Sector 21/22 light point last evening. 

According to the police, a complaint was received from Rajesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Sector 22, who reported that six persons kidnapped a woman in a grey car on June 17. 

Investigations revealed that the woman and her husband had an inter-religion marriage against the wishes of their parents after which they had come to the city to seek protection from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. 

Sources said the duo was going toward Sector 17 when the woman’s family arrived in a car and abducted her. The police were informed following which a case was registered under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person), 147 (punishment for rioting) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of a common object) of the IPC at the Sector 19 police station.

Had married against parents’ wishes
