Nepal resident held with 18-gm heroin

CHANDIGARH: The UT police crime branch arrested a drug peddler with 18-gm heroin. The team, led by Inspector Amanjot Singh, has already arrested around 25 drug peddlers this year out of which 15 were nabbed with heroin.

The UT police crime branch arrested a drug peddler with 18-gm heroin.

The team, led by Inspector Amanjot Singh, has already arrested around 25 drug peddlers this year out of which 15 were nabbed with heroin.

The accused has been identified as Kumar Kesi, a native of Nepal. The accused was arrested from near Botanical Garden on the Khuda Lahora-Mullanpur road.

A case against the accused has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Sarangpur police station.

Police officials said heroin was primarily smuggled to Chandigarh from Delhi. “It is usually purchased for Rs 900 per gm and sold for around Rs 3,000 per gm to drug addicts,” said the police.

Investigations revealed that a large number of youths from across the tricity purchased heroin from drug peddlers.

“College students and PG residents are among those who purchase the drug,” the police added.

Several drug addicts have also been arrested for committing snatchings in the city.
