Chandigarh, November 20

An unknown person has been booked for stealing a diamond necklace gifted to the newlywed couple at the wedding function of a Punjab MLA’s son.

Punjab MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, a resident of Sector 5, has complained to the police that the necklace and earrings were gifted to the couple at the wedding function held in Patiala on November 10.

The MLA had asked his staff members to keep all gifts safely in the car.

The police said the necklace set was kept in one of the cars by the gunman.

However, on reaching Chandigarh, it was discovered that the necklace had been stolen while the earrings were still in the necklace box.

The politician and his staff tried to trace the necklace for several days failing which a police complaint was made.

The police have registered a case under Section 379 (theft) of the IPC against an unknown person at the Sector 3 police station. The police said they would question the gunman and the driver of the car in which the necklace was kept.

Khaira is the founder of the Punjab Ekta Party and MLA from the Bholath Assembly seat in Kapurthala district.
