NDRF finds body of boy washed away in Saketri

CHANDIGARH: A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday found the body of a 15-year-old boy who was washed away on Monday in a rivulet at Saketri.

A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday found the body of a 15-year-old boy who was washed away on Monday in a rivulet at Saketri.

The body of Ranjit Kumar was found 2 km away from the spot where he drowned around 7.30 am.

Talking to mediapersons, NDRF Sub-Inspector Goverdhan Singh said the body was found stuck in bushes by a team of divers after the water level receded.

Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Saketri, had gone to pay obeisance at the Shiva temple in Saketri along with his sister around 9 am on Monday.

His father, Rajinder Kumar, said after his sister left for home, he went along with four of his friends to take a bath in the rivulet which flows behind Sukhna Lake at Saketri. However, he got washed away in the strong current. His friends rushed to his house to inform the family after the incident.

Ranjit Kumar was a student of Class IX at a government school in Saketri. His father is an auto driver.

The body could not be traced on Monday even though the operations were carried out till 8 pm.
