National award for Mohali resident

CHANDIGARH: In recognition of his relentless services to senior citizens, Prem Singh of Mohali has been honoured with national award ‘Vayoshrestha Samman’ in the ‘Courage and Bravery’ category by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

In recognition of his relentless services to senior citizens, Prem Singh of Mohali has been honoured with national award ‘Vayoshrestha Samman’ in the ‘Courage and Bravery’ category by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Prem Singh is a retired audit officer from the Indian Accounts and Audit Department. He has launched the ‘Lepro-Well’ movement for all-round development of leprosy patients and has rehabilitated 1,000 patients cured of leprosy. He has funded the endeavour from his own pocket and even sold his house to build a shelter for rehabilitating patients.

His service has been appreciated by the World Health Organisation. He has also been a recipient of the National Award for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities in 2002 by President of India.

He has been working for the last 30 years for the welfare, rehabilitation, and community development of patients.
