Nabha MC to collect fire cess from institutions

The cash starved Nabha Municipal Council has decided to charge fire cess from various institutions.  A resolution in this regard was passed at  General House meeting on Thursday. 

The resolution would be forwarded to the local bodies and when the same was approved the MC hopes to generate moreRs 10 lakh per annum from institutions including hospitals, factories and educational institutions located in the town. 

There are more than 250 institutions, including about 50 educational institutions in the town. The MC would charge Rs 5,000 as fire cess on institutions and those educational institutions which have less than 150 students would have to pay Rs 2,000. Besides, the MC would also charge Rs 5,000 for issuing fire call reports to the institutions. The fire call report was needed by the institutions to claim insurance.

Confirming the same MC chief, Rajneesh Mittal, said, two slabs of fire cess of Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 have been fixed which would help in the maintenance and upgrade of fire fighting system in the town. He said those educational institutions which have less than 150 students would be charged Rs 2,000 annually. 

The other resolutions passed by the House was awarding of contract for the lifting of garbage for the next one year starting from September 28. 

To update the property register and encroachment register, the MC has also decided to hire the services of Kanungo or Patwari on DC rate. The house expected that MC would have to pay around Rs 1.52 lakh per annum as contract salary to the employee to be hired on contract.
