Residents of Ward No. 23 at Nabha village in Zirakpur are being supplied contaminated drinking water for the past a few days. They said people were falling sick due to the supply of contaminated drinking water, triggering the scare of water-borne diseases. The residents claimed that they had complained multiple times in this regard to the MC, but to no avail.

“Drinking impure water can impact the health of our children. But we are left with no other option,” said Naresh, a nambardar of the village.

“The problem was always there but it has worsened in the past week. We have not washed our clothes since then,” the nambardar added.

“We are living under constant health scare. Foul smell emanates from water and we are supposed to use it for drinking, cooking and other purposes,” said Mangat, another resident.

The residents believe that the water pipeline might have been broken from several places due to which sewage had mixed with potable water.

They said the problem worsened during rain. They appealed to the local MLA and the MC authorities to get the problem fixed.

When contacted, Manvir Singh Gill, Executive Officer, Zirakpur MC, said people should complain to us so that we could look into it, adding that he would send his team to check the water supply by the evening.
