Chandigarh, September 28

Former India international and Punjab cricketer Dinesh Mongia, who announced his retirement from all forms of the sport earlier this month, was today given the voting rights by Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).

Mongia will now be among the five cricketers who would be able to cast their vote during the PCA election on October 4.

Earlier, the sports body had given voting rights to Bhupinder Singh (senior), Pankaj Dharmani, Harvinder Singh and Reetinder Singh Sodhi.

“Yes, I have been granted the voting rights. I am happy that my contribution towards the sport is being appreciated,” said Mongia.

These cricketers have been made PCA’s voting members as per the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, claimed a source.

Mongia, 42, played 57 ODIs for India between March 2001 and May 2007 and scored 1,230 runs at an average of 27.95.

He also represented India in a T20I against South Africa in December 2006, besides playing 121 First-Class matches.
