Mohali, December 3

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided to install open-air gyms in all of its 50 wards.

The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Mohali MC has given its nod to it in a meeting held here on Monday. The committee passed developmental works worth Rs 24 crore for the residents of the town.

Soon, 54 parks in the town will have gyms, which will be set up on astroturf.

As many as six parks in different wards already have such gyms. The remaining 44 wards and 10 big parks/gardens will get the facility. A total of Rs 5.5 crore will be spent on the project.

“The machines will be set up on astroturf to avoid any injury to the users,” said a senior official of the corporation.

One such gym would cost around Rs 9.45 lakh. “Youngsters, who cannot afford expenses on private gyms, will largely be benefitted by the facility. Moreover, these gyms can be used at any time,” the official added.

Earlier, the meeting also witnessed clearance of several other developmental works, including setting up of paver blocks in various parts of the town, laying of sewer pipelines, repair of roads, etc, worth around Rs 18.5 crore.

The Mohali MC House meeting would also take place by next week, the official said.
