Mohali, February 19

For the development of the town, the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Mohali Municipal Corporation gave its nod to various works of around Rs 9 crore here today.

In today’s meeting of the committee, in which Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh and MC Commissioner Sandeep Hans were also present, Rs 7.61-crore works, including repair of road gullies, curve channels, iron grills, widening of roads, maintenance of dumping ground and community centres, setting up of paver blocks at various places, etc, were allotted to different contractors and firms. Besides, the committee also passed other development works, mainly related to the Public Health Department, of Rs 1.66 crore today.

Giving information, Kulwant Singh said the development works would be started soon here.

“One of the main development works here included widening of four main roads — 2.1-km road stretch from the traffic lights of SSP residence to Mohali village, 1.6-km stretch Golf Club Road (separating Phase 9 and 10), 3.2-km stretch from Kumbhra Chowk to Bawa White House and 1.3-km patch from Phase 3A to Mataur village — and maintenance of dumping ground at Phase 7, Industrial Area,” said Mayor Kulwant Singh.

He said the MC was also all set to start de-silting and repair work of sewerage pipelines, manholes, brick storm sewers and laying of RCC storm water pipelines at various places across the town.

It is to be noted that due to alleged tussle between Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu and Kulwant Singh and recent controversy of a show-cause notice to the latter by the Punjab Local Government Department all developmental works in the town had come to a standstill.
