The Ambala police have arrested a Mohali resident for allegedly manhandling an on-duty policeman and deterring him from discharging his duties yesterday night.

The suspect has been identified as Kulbir Singh, a resident of Badana village under Handesra Police Station of Mohali, Punjab. He was produced before a court today, which sent him to judicial custody.

As per the information, during a naka, the suspect a vehicle carrying a Punjab number plate was stopped. The driver was drunk. He was asked to show the papers of the vehicle, but instead he started misbehaving with the Sub-Inspector and also allegedly manhandled and threatened to kill him.

Kulbir’s vehicle was impounded and when he was asked to sign the challan, he tore it. A case has been registered under Sections 332, 353, 186, 506 of the IPC and 68 of the Excise Act. — TNS
