Chandigarh, March 18

A fire broke out at a residential unit on the Panjab University campus here on Monday evening.

Sources said the fire took place on the top floor of house number 168 in Block B around 8 pm.

Short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

No casualty has been reported in the incident but furniture and other material was damaged.

A fire official said they received the call about the fire around 8 pm. Two fire tenders from Sector 11 and 17 fire stations were pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control in 30 minutes, the fire official added.

“It was a minor fire, probably caused by a short circuit. However, it was controlled much before any damage was done,” said Ashwani Koul, Chief of University Security. — TNS
