Patiala, December 16

Nabha Power Limited supported by Energy Harvest (of UK) took corporate leap to check stubble burning. A demonstration project has been established near the 1400 MW power plant in Patiala to convert paddy straw into pellets. The pelletisation plant was today inaugurated by Minister of Power and Irrigation (Punjab) Rana Gurjit Singh in the presence of the British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, Andrew Ayre.

The minister urged the farmers not to burn the straw and use new and innovative ways to use the straw. Prof Robert Berry from Aston University highlighted that how the agriculture waste was being used in the UK for energy purposes. These technologies can immensely benefit the local community and have huge economic and environmental impact. — TNS
