Minerva include Kassim Aidara in their I-League squad

Chandigarh: Minerva Punjab FC signed German-born Senegalese midfielder Kassim Aidara for the upcoming I-League season.

Chandigarh: Minerva Punjab FC signed German-born Senegalese midfielder Kassim Aidara for the upcoming I-League season. Aidara, who was born in Germany, holds dual citizenship of France and Senegal. The 30-year-old had played in Germany's Jenfelder SV, SC Concordia von 1907 and France's Ligue 2 regulars Paris FC in his initial days. He was roped in by New Zealand's Wellington United AFC, nicknamed The Diamonds, who compete in The Capital Premier League. He was signed by Hamburg-based USC Paloma. He later moved on to Lüneburger SK Hansa in Northern Germany to play in the Regionalliga Nord.  

Ball badminton team to play in Junior National C’ship 

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association today announced a 20-member squad comprising 10 boys and 10 girls for the 63rd Junior National Championship, scheduled to be held at Shivamogga, Karnataka, from October 4. While Ankush, Amit Kumar, Akash Yadav, Bharat, Sachin, Akash Kumar, Nikhil, Chirag, Rajat and Deepak Yadav will compete in the boys’ category, Ruman, Ishika Mahajan, Sukhmeet Kaur, Aarti Mudgil, Taniya, Samridhi, Kushi, Kushagrika, Komal Preet and Amripal Kaur will form the girls’ squad.

Friendly Chess Tournament on October 8 

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Parents Association will organise Friendly Chess Tournament at Manav Mangal School, Sector 21 on October 8. The competition will be organised in three categories -- open, U-15, and U-10. The top-10 finishers will be awarded cash awards. The winner of the veteran category (age 60+ years) will be also awarded. The time format will be 25 minutes with an increment of five seconds. The tournament will start at 9am, and interested players can register themselves from 8.30am to 9am at the tournament venue.

Livewire Centre beat Pepsico by five wickets

Chandigarh: A T20 match was organised today by Livewire Coaching Centre in remembrance of their former trainee Karan Thakur, who allegedly committed suicide because of the Blue Whale game. Dr Luthra’s XI defeated Pepsico XI by five wickets. Batting first, Pepsico scored 100 runs with the help of Harvinder (64) and Vikramjit (17). Gunman claimed three and Pankaj took two wickets for the bowling side. In reply, Dr Luthra's XI scored 101/5. Ravi Atwal (26), Vippan (22) and Arun Luthra (16) confirmed the win.

Shubh beat Pranay Mittal in tennis with ease 

Mohali: Shubh Negi blanked Pranay Mittal 9-0 in the final qualifying round match of the boy’s U-16 category in the Roots-AITA CS-7 U-16 National Ranking Championship here today. Himanshu Sharma beat Yogendra 9-5, while Rahul Kumar beat Amitoj Singh 9-5. Samarbir Singh defeated Pranay Sharma 9-1 —TNS
