The Dera Bassi police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) against a medical practitioner in Paragpur village near here.

Kin of Harnek Singh (50) of Karkaur village, who died following an infection, have accused the practitioner of negligence.

Deceased’s son Sukhwinder Singh told the police that his father Harnek Singh was suffering from cold and throat infection and they took him to the practitioner in Paragpur village near Dera Bassi. He said the practitioner had administered an injection, following which Harnek’s condition deteriorated. Then Harnek Singh was taken to a private hospital which referred him to the GMCH-32 where he reportedly died on Friday evening. Members of the deceased’s family lodged a complaint against the practitioner. Further probe is on. —OC
