MCM DAV celebrates golden jubilee

Glowing tributes to Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and spiritual fervour marked the beginning of the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of the MCM DAV College for Women, here today.

The celebrations of completion of 50 years began on an auspicious note with 51 Kundiya Mahayagya to seek the divine blessings for illumining the future path of MCM.

HR Gandhar, Senior Governing Body Member, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, graced the mahayagya with his presence as the chief guest.

Special guests on the occasion were RK Popli, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh; and PU Senator Prof Dalip Kumar.

On the occasion, RK Popli and Prof Dalip Kumar inaugurated the RUSA-sponsored biogas plant.

MCM DAV was established in 1968. Prof Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, also graced the occasion.

In her inaugural address, Principal Nisha Bhargava referred to MCM DAV as the organic and living tribute to Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and chronicled the achievements of the past 50 years that had earned MCM the prestigious status of one of the country's premier institution.

Congratulating the MCM fraternity for the landmark 50 years, Prof Grover stressed that in order to evolve as a world-class institution, MCM should foresee the challenges that future holds and prepare accordingly to meet them. He also highlighted the immensely vital contributions of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan in the field of education that was indelibly etched in our memories. Referring to Justice Mehr Chand as a paragon of virtues, Gandhar added that he loved and lived for humanity.

The IQAC Newsletter of the college was also released by the dignitaries present on the occasion. The brand ambassadors of MCM- the alumnae who have carved a niche for themselves in various fields were also honoured during the function. The retired faculty members recounted their fulfilling association with MCM and shared endearing anecdotes from their lives at MCM in their memoirs.

Bhargava said the completion of 50 remarkable years was a matter of great pride for everyone associated with MCM.
