A team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) paid a visit to Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital on Saturday for final inspection to confirm additional 50 medical seats, which were sanctioned in 2013.

The two-member team was here to assess the evaluation of examination process for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course against the increased intake. Meanwhile, the team of experts — Dr PP Joshi from Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur, and Dr Satyajeet Verma from Mahamaya Rajkiya Allopathic Medical College, Uttar Pradesh — carried out intensive inspection sessions.

The inspection was part of the mandatory process after 50 seats were added to the existing 150.

The inspection team on Saturday evaluated the examination process, including externals and internals, and the team also visited various departments, OPDs (outpatient departments), laboratories, intensive care units and operation theatres to inspect the facilities and equipment.

Team members refused to make any comment before the media. “We will submit our report to the MCI, which will take the final decision. We cannot make our comments public,” a team member said.

Government Medical College Principal BS Sidhu said: “The inspection was conducted by the MCI to evaluate the examination process of the MBBS final year. We are expecting positive report as I don’t think they found any deficiency from our side.”
