MC will work to make Chandigarh No. 1 in swachhata: Mayor

The Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh conducted the first workshop on the star rating of the garbage-free city under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The city Mayor, Davesh Moudgil, inaugurated the workshop for councillors at the MC building here on Monday.

Similarly, another workshop was organised at Tagore Theatre in Secotor 18 here at 2 pm for all the stakeholders, including representatives of the residents’ welfare associations (RWAs), MWAs, NGOs, institutes, religious and other organisations.

During the inaugural session, the Mayor said the star rating of the garbage-free city would create healthy competition among towns across the country.

“The MCC will put all possible efforts in the campaign ‘Chandigarh banega Swachhata me No.1’ under the four tier system,” he added.

Vaibhav Rao from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) gave detailed presentations on seven star rating of the garbage-free city on the occasion.

“Similar workshop for safai karmacharis will be organised shortly with a motive to achieve the goal of No.1 rank in the ensuing Swachhata Survekshan,” he said.

The objective behind these workshops was to achieve the goals of cleanliness and 100 per cent solid waste management in the city, he added.

“To familiarise and build capacities of councillors, MCC officials and all stakeholders with regard to the seven star rating protocol of garbage-free cities, such workshops focus will be on smart approach of citizens towards assessing the cleanliness of city,” he said.

Besides, an exhibition on the theme of “On site composting” was also organised on the MC building premises.
