MC to give Rs 3-lakh relief to toddler’s kin

The MC has decided to give a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family of the one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was mauled to death by stray dogs at a park in Sector 18 on Sunday.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Commissioner KK Yadav on Monday.

Terming the incident shocking, the Mayor announced that they would frame a compensation policy for dog-bite victims soon. He said the draft policy would be placed before the House at its next meeting and a special head would be created to help the victims in the future.

Yadav said the policy was being framed on the directions of the High Court. He said the MC had taken the incident seriously and had prepared a detailed programme to deal with the issue. He said as part of its strategy, the MC would intensify the dog birth-control programme. An awareness programme would also be launched to discourage people from feeding stray dogs.

Besides, the MC would ask people to identify ferocious dogs in their area and inform the MC. The MC would take the dogs away from the area.

He said the MC had also decided to conduct a fresh census of stray dogs in the city. The Commissioner said the last census was held 10 years ago. One-and-a-half-year-old Ayush was mauled to death by stray dogs after his mother left her four children at a park and went to work in a house situated nearby. While the other children managed to run away, Ayush fell prey to the dogs.
