MC to check markets in city for fire safety

Ahead of the festive season, the Municipal Corporation (MC)will inspect fire safety equipment installed at markets in the city.

This was decided during a meeting of the Fire Committee of the civic body, which was held under the chairmanship of Sat Parkash Aggarwal and attended by members Rajesh Kumar Kalia, Heera Negi, Haji Mohommad, Khurshid Ali, Hardeep Singh, Gurbax Rawat and Anil Kumar Garg besides MC additional commissioner and officials of the enforcement wing.

During the meeting, various issues related to fire safety measures to be taken during the festive season were discussed. The committee members asked the officials concerned to speed up the online process of issuing no-objection certificate.

The committee also asked the officials to display the standard operating procedure on the official website of the corporation.

The members were apprised by MC officials that 330 buildings have been inspected for fire safety and 220 buildings were advised to adhere to the norms. The committee also asked the officials to table the month-wise fire audit report in the next meeting.

The committee members decided that firefighting equipment in buildings falling under the jurisdiction of the MC will be checked. The committee members will visit the seven fire stations to inspect the inventory, equipment and machinery etc.
