Chandigarh, April 16

A local court has granted bail to an employee of the Public Health Department of the MC who was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on March 15.

In a complaint to the Vigilance Department, Surinder Kumar of Bapu Dham Colony had stated that Tej Pal, head jamadar, had sought graft of Rs 50,000 to get his son appointed as a sweeper in the department.

Tej Pal asked him to pay Rs 10,000 in advance. On March 15, the accused called him along with his son’s documents and Rs 10,000.

However, the complainant approached the Vigilance Department. Atrap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the accused was behind bars for the past one month and no recovery was to be made from him.

After hearing the arguments, the court stated the police had already recovered the tainted amount of Rs 10,000 from the accused. It would be an exercise in futility to detain him till the furnishing of challan by the prosecution.

The court thus ordered the release of the accused on regular bail after furnishing bail bonds of Rs 50,000 with a surety in the like amount. —TNS
