Mayor forms panel to review car bazaar policy

CHANDIGARH: Mayor Davesh Moudgil on Friday constituted a committee of councillors and officers of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to review the policy of the car bazaar and submit its recommendations within 15 days in this respect.

Mayor Davesh Moudgil on Friday constituted a committee of councillors and officers of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to review the policy of the car bazaar and submit its recommendations within 15 days in this respect.

The Mayor said a delegation of the car bazaar dealers met him time and again and told him that as per directions of the High Court, no broad contours regarding the requisite infrastructure/facilities at Hallo Majra had been provided and further requested for shifting the existing car bazaar to some other place.

He said it is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab & Haryana High Court had passed the order dated January 22, 2016 in CWP No. 8135 of 2015 and CWP No. 20847 of 2014 with the directions that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation should take initiative for framing the policy as soon as possible for the purpose of shifting the old car bazaar from the parking of Sector 7-C, Chandigarh.

According to the directions of the High Court, the UT Administration and the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation are directed to take a firm decision about the allotment of the alternative site and to shift the old car bazaar from the parking of Sector 7-C, Chandigarh, where all required facilities shall also be provided.

Anil Kumar Dubey will head the committee, while other members of the committee include Raj Bala Malik, Mahesh Inder Sidhu, Rajesh Gupta, Hardeep Singh, Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, Gurbax Rawat, Satish Kainth, Sat Parkash Aggarwal, NP Sharma, SE (B&R), Ravinder Sharma, XEN, and Surinder Sharma.

Committee members
