Ahead of UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore’s visit to Jandpur and Kajauli waterworks near Morinda for checking the supply line on Monday, Mayor Davesh Moudgil has expressed confidence that they will bring the additional water supply to the city by April 30.

However, households will have to wait for getting 24/7 water supply. After bringing supply to the city, the Municipal Corporation will have to raise the capacity of waterworks in various areas.

“The Governor and I will be visiting the site on Monday. We will certainly be able to provide 24/7 water supply to the city by April 30,” said the Mayor.

The Administrator will issue necessary directions to the officials concerned for speeding up the work. After this, water testing related issues will also be worked out.

Officials said the development work at the site has picked up pace ahead of the Badnore’s visit. More than 90 per cent work of bringing additional 40 million gallons per day (MGD) of water through a new pipeline from Kajauli to the Sector 39 waterworks is completed.

However, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), which is carrying out the work on laying the pipeline from Kajauli to Jandpur, has also not completed the work.

An Municipal Corporation official said they have spent around Rs 86 crore on the project. Of this, Rs 23 crore was spent on setting up water supply line from Kajauli to the Sector 39 waterworks, while Rs 18 crore has been spent on the water treatment plant. Rs 45 crore has been spent in Jandpur.

Officials said they were releasing the funds to the contractors concerned on the completion of a particular job. Other than this, the UT Administration had already released Rs 98 crore to the Punjab Government for the execution of Phase 5 and 6 of water pipeline project from Bhakra mainline at Kajauli in 2015.
