Man killed as shots fired in Chandigarh’s Sector 17

CHANDIGARH: In a broad daylight shootout right in the heart of Chandigarh, a man was shot dead by four unidentified assailants near Sector 17 market on Wednesday. A cab driver was injured in the incident.

In a broad daylight shootout right in the heart of Chandigarh, a man was shot dead by four unidentified assailants near Sector 17 market on Wednesday. A cab driver was injured in the incident.

Police said cab driver Jatinder, believed to be in late 20s, hails from Jind in Haryana and was targeted by four assailants barely 100 metre from the Sector 17 police station. While Jatinder was injured, a bystander whose identity is yet to be established died on the spot.

Police said the assailants fired three to four rounds before fleeing the spot on foot. It’s still not clear how the assailants arrived at the spot.

The police are looking at the possibility of some old enmity as the motive behind the crime.
