Chandigarh: A Ludhiana resident has been arrested while smuggling 50 boxes of liquor in a SUV. According to the police, the accused, identified as Harinder Singh, was nabbed while carrying 50 boxes of country-made liquor in a Toyota Innova. The accused was arrested near the Gate No. 3, Police Lines, Sector 26, on June 10. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against him at the Sector 26 police station. The accused was produced in a court which sent him to judicial custody. TNS

Teenaged girl held with heroin 

Chandigarh: The crime branch of the UT police has arrested a teenaged girl while carrying heroin. According to the police, Neha (19), a resident of Sector 25, was arrested near Dhanas bridge after 10 grams of heroin was recovered from her. A case has been registered against her under the NDPS Act at the Maloya police station. An investigation has been initiated into the case. TNS 

Water supply to be normal today 

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation has repaired the technical snag at a water supply line, which had affected the water supply in the city on Tuesday. A senior MC official said the water supply to the city would be normal from Wednesday morning. He further said the railway authorities had already started the work and communicated to the MC that they would complete it within a week.

City boys face Ludhiana  today

Chandigarh: Chandigarh will take on hosts Ludhiana in the last round of the Katoch Shield super league, which begins on Wednesday. Amritsar will host Jalandhar at the Gandhi Grounds, while Mohali will lock horns with Nawanshahr at IS Bidnra PCA Stadium. Patiala will square off with Ropar at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, the PCA said here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, in the DP Azad Trophy, Chandigarh will host Bathinda in the second round. Amritsar will travel to Ropar, while Ludhiana will play Jalandhar at home. Mohali is scheduled to visit Patiala, the sports body added. TNS

Northern Spartans win

Chandigarh: Northern Spartans, Amritsar, beat Goa’s Drop Step 17-11 to win the inaugural Red Bull Reign National Finals — a unique global 3 on 3 basketball tournament — in Mumbai. Earlier in the semifinals, Northern Spartans registered a 21-14 win over Tune Squad, Delhi and Chandigarh, while Drop Step overcame Income Tax, Ahmedabad, 16-14. Northern Spartans will now get an opportunity of travelling to Toronto and representing India at the World Finals later this year. TNS

U-16 cricket meet kicks off

Mohali: Eight teams from different parts of the region are participating in the inaugural Saheed Arjan Singh U-16 Cricket Championship, which kicked off the Landra cricket grounds here on Tuesday. RP Cricket Academy (Delhi), Brothers Cricket Academy (Delhi), Champions Cricket Academy (Kharar), Narinder Walia Cricket Academy (Panchkula), Sunrise Cricket Academy (Zirakpur), Mohali Cricket Club, Mani Ram Cricket Academy (Faridabad) and Team Junior Boys (Delhi) will compete in the five-day long tournament, said the organisers. The  teams have been divided into two groups and top two teams from each group will play in the semifinals. TNS
