Chandigarh, December 8

A 47-year-old man was held guilty by a local court for an acid attack on a 53-year-old neighbour last year. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Monday.

The convict, Sudhir Kumar, had been booked under Section 326-A of the IPC by the court. The victim, Raj Singh, is an auditor for the Food and Supply Department of Haryana.

According to the police complaint, Raj Singh had stated that around 7 pm on October 11, 2016, he, along with his friends Jaipal, Mahavir and Ramesh, was consuming liquor near the Sector 52 tube well to celebrate Dasehra.

Meanwhile, Sudhir, also a resident of Sector 52, came there and sprayed something on the victim’s face and body and stated that he would eliminate him. It is said that there was an old enmity between them, which was the reason behind the attack. About a month ago, the two had an argument near their place.

Due to the spray, the victim started feeling irritation on his face and body and started rolling on the grass. The friends of the victim then called his wife, Chanderwati, while Sudhir managed to escape. The police were informed about the incident. The victim was rushed to the GMCH-32 in a PCR vehicle where he underwent treatment. The police then registered a case under Sections 326-B and 323, IPC. The accused was later arrested from a park in Sector 52. — TNS
