Officials concerned were busy passing the buck while the body of a middle-aged man, presumably dead, was lying at the parking lot of the railway station.

According to taxi drivers, the man who used to beg died last night, but the authorities did nothing to remove the body late till afternoon. Minakshi, a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable, was seen shuttling offices after learning about the death.

“I have been told that there is no doctor at the railway station who could visit the parking lot to check whether the man is dead or alive. A communiqué has been sent to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), but they are yet to arrive. Since morning, I have been running from one office to the other asking the officials to give us permission to remove the man’s body,” said an exasperated Minakshi.

After clicking the picture of the middle-aged man, suspected to have been dead, a man in civvies claming himself to be the in charge of the GRP police station said an auto driver who ferried schoolchildren would take the body to the Civil Hospital.

When asked how they learnt about the death, the in charge replied, “No medical examination has been conducted so far, but he was declared brought dead,” said the GRP in charge.

Station superintendent maintained that the body was removed within five minutes after receiving the information. Station Superintendent TP Singh said there was a health unit for the railway staff, but there was no doctor to attend to passengers.
