Dera Bassi: A 52-yera-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Surinder Singh, a resident of Mubarikpur village near Dera Bassi. His wife found him hanging. She immediately raised an alram and called her two daughters, who informed the police. No suicide note was found from the spot. The police said Surinder Singh was into the transport business. He took the extreme step after suffering losses in the business. The police said the deceased was depressed for the past a few years. OC

Two POs arrested in Dhakoli 

Zirakpur: The Dhakoli police arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs). The police said Amrik Singh, Paramjit Singh and Varinder Singh, all residents of Chandigarh, had been evading arrest in a case under the Immigration Act. They were declared proclaimed offenders by a Jalandhar court. The police had received information that they were staying at a rented accommodation in Krishna Enclave, Dhakoli. OC

Poisonous feed kills cattle  

Kharar:  Seven head of cattle died at Niamian village near Kharar after taking poisonous feed. The cattle were owned by Piara Singh, a local farmer. The police have registered a case under Sections 429 and 120-B of the IPC. Piara Singh said around 9.30 pm, he saw foam coming out of their mouth. He called a private doctor but his cattle could not be saved. A team of government doctors arrived at his residence and noticed a blue-coloured pesticide at the spot. He said his cattle might have been given some poisonous substance. Animal Husbandry Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said he would talk to the Chief Minister in this regard so that adequate compensation could be given to the farmer.  Dr Gurdeep Singh, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, said the smell of the pesticide found at the spot was so strong that the two doctors sent for investigation fell unconscious.
