The CIA of the Mohali police today nabbed a man carrying 24,000 tablets of Lomotil, a habit-forming drug.

The suspect was identified as Dalvinder Singh, alias Jinder, of Majat village near Mohali. He was produced before a court, which sent him to three-day police custody.

Satwant Singh Sidhu, Inspector, CIA staff, said following a tip-off, a joint team of the CIA staff and the narcotics cell laid a check-post on the Landran-Chunni roadlate in the evening on Thursday.

He said the police saw a car, PB-11-AT-3220, coming towards the check-post. When the suspect saw the police, he stopped the vehicle and attempted to escape from the spot. The police party chased the driver and intercepted him. During search, the police recovered 24,000 Lomotil tablets hidden below foot mats, he said. The suspect was booked under Sections 22-61-85, NDPS Act.

Recently, the STF had arrested two drug peddlers - Pradeep Goyal, the kingpin, and his associate drug peddler Sunil Kumar, alias Sonu, who was running an illegal chemist racket in Ludhiana. This led to further recovery of a consignment of 10,67,800 tablets in the raid, out of which 9,11,400 were Tramadol tablets.
