The Dera Bassi police have arrested a man and also booked a granthi of a gurdwara for allegedly issuing a bogus marriage certificate to a runaway couple.

The police said the suspect, who was arrested, has been identified as Parveen Kumar, a resident of Morthikri village falling under the jurisdiction of the Dera Bassi police station, while the granthi has been identified as Maninder Singh. The police are conducting raids to arrest Maninder.

Investigating officer Mewa Singh said Parveen Kumar, along with Maninder Singh, had issued a marriage certificate to the runaway couple in 2015 as the couple had decided to move a court seeking police protection after their marriage.

The investigating officer said during investigations, the allegations levelled against the suspects were proved for issuing bogus marriage certificate to the runaway couple.

The police here on Wednesday registered a case against Parveen Kumar and Maninder Singh under relevant Sections of the IPC at the Dera Bassi police station. Though, the police have arrested Parveen late on Wednesday evening, Maninder is still at large.

Meanwhile, the Dera Bassi police produced Parveen in the court at Dera Bassi on Thursday. The police got his five-day remand to interrogate him. Further probe is on, said the investigating officer.
