The local police arrested a man for the rape of his 11-year-old stepdaughter today. The suspect, Murtuza, was booked around five months ago and had been on the run since then. He is a resident of Chhat village and worked as a peon.

The victim’s mother had told the police that she had a daughter from her previous marriage and had married Murtuza a year ago.

The victim’s mother had told the police that on May 18, she had gone to work and left her 11-year-old daughter at home. Upon her return, she found her daughter and husband missing. She was told by one of her neighbours that they had gone towards Ramgarh side on a bike.

She alleged that when she went in search for her, she found Murtuza forcing himself upon her daughter in the bushes. The accused immediately fled from the spot. The minor girl was then sent for a medical check-up at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi.
