The local police have arrested a man for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter multiple times during the last one year. Though the incident happened in November, the suspect was arrested on a complaint filed by girl’s mother with the Zirakpur police station here on Thursday.

The police said the suspect worked as an electrician. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the girl told her that she was threatened by her stepfather of dire consequences if she revealed about the heinous crime committed by him to anyone for the past one year.

The victim’s mother approached the police after her daughter revealed about her trauma. The victim was admitted to a nearby hospital in Panchkula where her medical examination was conducted. According to the complaint, the suspect used to force minor girl for physical relationship whenever her mother, who works as a domestic help, went out for a couple of hours.

When contacted, the Zirakpur SHO, Gurwant Singh, said, “Acting on the complaint of victim’s mother the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act against the suspect and arrested him. Further probe is on.”
