A local court acquitted a Sector 38 resident in a case of kidnapping and compelling a 16-year-old to marry him. Vikram, aka Vicky, was let off after the victim, who was also the complainant, turned hostile in the court. Vicky was booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage) of the IPC.

On October 13 last year, the girl went missing, following which her brother Pardeep, a resident of Sector 48, got suspicious that she had eloped with someone he had inkling about. He filed a complaint and an FIR was registered at the Sector 39 police station. Vicky was arrested on October 19, 2017.

During the proceedings, it was repeatedly argued that there was not enough evidence against the accused since his name was never mentioned in the FIR. Later, the 20-year-old brother as well as the victim’s two younger sisters turned hostile in the court. After hearing the arguments, the court acquitted Vikram.
