Maintenance of community toilets now with NULM

Chandigarh, May 17

Following Chandigarh Tribune's report regarding the sorry state of affairs of public toilets in Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation took note of the issue during a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee of Municipal Corporation today.

The members accorded approval to the proposal for handing over of operation and maintenance of community toilets located at different locations in Chandigarh to local community self-help groups under the NULM (National Urban Livelihood 

Mission).

Chandigarh Tribune highlighted how they are exasperated by tobacco stains and smoke in. Women prefer using washrooms in shopping complexes as those were clean. In parks also, toilets are in a bad shape. Some toilets in parks are often found locked. Taps too have run dry and the toilet stinks.—TNS
