MACT orders Rs 45.78 lakh relief

Chandigarh: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has announced a compensation of Rs 45.78 lakh to a family residing in Sector 49 in an accident death case.

Chandigarh: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has announced a compensation of Rs 45.78 lakh to a family residing in Sector 49 in an accident death case. The tribunal has directed the owner of a tipper, driver and National Insurance Company Ltd, Sector 26, to jointly and severally pay the compensation along with an interest of 7.5 per cent per annum from the date of application and realisation. Advocate Sunil K Dixit said the tribunal had announced the compensation to the deceased’s wife and three children. According to the plea, on May 5, 2016, Nageshwar Parsad was riding a motorcycle near Radha Swami Chowk, Sector 71, when the tipper, coming from the Industrial Area, jumped the red light and hit the motorcycle. The motorcyclist died in the accident. TNS

Man jumps before train, dies

Dera Bassi: An unidentified man reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train here on Tuesday night. According to GRP sources, they got information that a man had committed suicide. The police reached the spot and took the body into custody. The deceased appeared to be a slum resident and is believed to be about 30 years old. The police tried to get the victim identified, but did not succeed. OC 

Two theft cases reported

Chandigarh: Two cases of theft have been reported from the city. While Rs 40,000 was stolen from a cargo vehicle after breaking a windowpane, Rs 4,000 and a laptop were stolen from an office in the Industrial Area. Shadab Mustafa Qadari, a resident of Phase I, Ram Darbar, reported that someone stole Rs 40,000 and documents after breaking the windowpane of his cargo vehicle that was parked in a market at Burail village on May 14. In another incident, Shishpal Garg complained that Rs 4,000 and a laptop were stolen from his office in the Industrial Area, Phase II. TNS

3 computers stolen from office

Chandigarh: The police have registered a theft case after three computers were reportedly stolen from Central Revenue Building, Sector 17. According to the police, Dharambir, superintendent, Central Excise and Service Tax Commissioner's Office, Chandigarh, reported that someone stole three computers from the building between May 2 and May 4. The police have registered a case. TNS 

Biker crushed to death

Mohali: A motorbike-borne youth was killed after being run over by a tractor-trailer at the Siswan T-point in Mullanpur on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Mohit Kumar, a resident of Ballangarh village. The police said the victim stopped on the roadside to drink water when the rashly-driven trailer crushed him and sped away. The police have registered a case. TNS
