Endowed with a melodious voice, legendary Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan mesmerised the audience through his performance at Tagore Theatre here today. The charity concert was organised by the Rani Breast Cancer Trust, an NGO.

He created an intimate relation with the audience, saying, “Singing for a human cause rejuvenates me and my heart goes out for cancer victims. I appeal to all of you to be sympathetic and helpful.”

Revealing the glory of Sufi saints, he rendered a couplet ‘Dushman marrey to khushi na kariye ke sajna bhi mar jana” before doling out a song, ‘Mein mitti teri jaat ve mitti’. The demands from the audience pouring in and he obliged the audience with his singing. The audience danced on popular numbers such as “Sajna ve sajna”, “Challa, Ki banu duniya da”, “Cycle” and “Chitte dand”.

He eulogised the audience, terming them supreme and shared an incident when dejected viewers pelted legendary Bollywood actor-director with stones but he faced them with dignity, maintaining that they loved him as well. Magical Mann was supported by accomplished musicians and chorus singers.

Play on life & journey of Valmiki  

  • Delhi-based drama ensemble, Rangtoli Nat Chaupal, staged the play on the third day of the Acharya Abhinav Gupt National Drama Festival. 
  • The mythological play, written and directed by Vashisth Upadhayay, depicted the transformation of a bandit Ratnakar into Maharishi Valmiki. 
  • The play brought to light how Ratnakar, hiding in a forest, used to rob innocent people till he had a chance encounter with sage Narada.
