Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan described women as good managers and stressed that they had the strength to perform duties both within and outside their homes.

The Speaker further emphasised that for the development of a nation, it was important to empower women and realise their strength.

Mahajan was addressing women delegates of ‘Sumangla-2018’, a conclave organised by the Bharat Vikas Parishad at Bhargava Auditorium of the PGI on Sunday. She said development was an outcome of collective efforts. “Disparity and inequality in society destroys not only values, but existence too. Respect begins from the family,” she said.

“You have the strength to perform because you have the power to recognise what is to be done. You recognise it and perform it. You should also have self-confidence that ‘I can’,” Mahajan told women present on the occasion.

“Despite not having a degree in management, women are good managers. You do not realise that you are a good manager because you yourself say that you do nothing. Being a housewife doesn’t mean that you don’t perform your duties well. Get this thought out of your mind because you do your duties with perfection,” she said.

She also cited the example of a Member of Parliament, who had once told her that he managed to complete his studies because of the support of his wife.

Addressing the gathering, Mahajan underscored the need for women equipping themselves with knowledge to guide their children in choosing the right career.

Earlier, Ajay Dutta, National Secretary General, welcomed the delegates.

MP Kirron Kher said society wanted such institutions where pervert minds could be tamed well from an early age and brought in a way that they respected not only women, but society at large.

During the event, folk singer Malini Awasthi regaled the audience with songs, depicting the feminine spirit and agony.

The parishad’s souvenir was also unveiled on the occasion. Dr Jagat Ram, PGI Director, Devesh Moudgil, Mayor, KK Yadav, MC Commissioner, Sanjay Tandon, BJP president, councillors and former mayors and other parishad members were present on the occasion.
