Chandigarh, February 21

In a record of sorts, the city witnessed the maximum rainfall and the lowest day temperature in February this year since 2014. Unlike previous years, the cold weather this time is expected to stay longer, till March-end.

According to the weatherman, seven western disturbances have already been reported this month so far, while two more are expected.

Due to good rainfall in February, the cold weather conditions, which generally diminish by March 10-15, are expected to extend for the entire month.

“February this year has witnessed the lowest day temperature since 2014. The month has also witnessed the maximum rainfall since 2014. The winter season is going to stay on till March-end,” said Surender Paul, Director, Chandigarh Meteorological Department.

The normal maximum temperature in February is 24.4°C, while the normal minimum temperature is 9.2°C. However, this month, the maximum temperature has already seen a dip of two degrees from normal, while the minimum temperature has seen a rise of five degrees from normal.

The next western disturbance is expected around February 24 and another one at the month-end. This will lead to rain and a further dip in the temperature.
