Local Bodies Minister lays stone of dog shelter in P’kula

Haryana Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain on Monday laid the foundation stone for a dog shelter at Sukhdarshanpur village near Raipur Rani in the district.

Lush green nature park and a spa will be the main features of the shelter. Kavita said this was the one of a kind state-of-the-art kennel shelter in the country. The project would be completed within a year, she said.

The shelter will be constructed at Rs 3.03 crore on 3 acres. It will have 42 large rooms, having the capacity to retain 1,000 dogs. Each room will have 30 stainless steel cages for each dog. The shelter home will be set up as per the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board.

MC Administrator Rajesh Jogpal said the double-storey building would have an OPD, emergency ward, a laboratory and a veterinary doctor. There will be an emergency operation theatre and an administrative block where staff would be required to keep the record of each dog. He said, “People can bring in their pets for treatment to the clinic. It will have a hostel facility for 250 pet dogs. Pet owners can handover their pets while going out of station.”
