Members of the District Bar Association, led by its president Brij Mohan Singh, today abstain from court work and sat outside the court complex to stop the lawyers from appearing in courts.

They were protesting against the FIR registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC against advocate Kuldeep Singh Cheema and three others allegedly for cheating one Gurnam Singh, resident of Attewali village, of Rs 10 lakh.

Brij Mohan Singh, president of the association, said the police had falsely implicated the advocate without verifying the facts. He said Gurnam Singh, resident of Attewali village, had complained to the police that advocate Kuldeep Singh Cheema sold him a showroom site in Modern Valley here and took Rs 10 Lakh from him. He was neither refunding his money nor getting the showroom registered in his name.

He said the police registered the FIR, whereas the fact was that the advocate had himself purchased the showroom site from someone. He further sold it to Gurnam Singh. But when verified it was found that the showroom site, which was plot number 17, was a site for toilet. So the advocate himself had been cheated by the earlier seller.

He said they had moved an application to the SSP to conduct an independent inquiry and to provide justice to the advocate. The SSP had marked the inquiry to the DSP, Fatehgarh Sahib.

When contacted, Varinderjit Singh Thind, DSP, Fatehgarh Sahib, said he would conduct the inquiry. The FIR was registered after an inquiry by the SHO, Fatehgarh Sahib. He would send his report to the SSP.
