Languages Dept to award writers

The Languages Department, Punjab, has demanded books published in Punjabi, Urdu, Sanskrit and Hindi in 2018 for conferring the best literary and good printing awards.

The department has asked writers to submit books for a number of awards including Bhai Veer Singh Award, Gurbaksh Singh Preetlari Award and Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir Award in Punjabi, Giani Sant Singh Award, Sudarshan Award and Mohan Rakesh Awards in Hindi, and Sahir Ludhianwi Award, Kanhaiya Lal Kapur Award and Rajinder Singh Bedi Award in Urdu among others.

Gursharan Kaur, Director, Languages Department, Punjab, said, “Twenty-one awards will be given away for books in all four languages.” She added that publishers of the books published in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu last year and found having good printing would also be awarded. 

She said writers of books in Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu, who reside in Punjab, could take part in the event while there was no such limitation for Punjabi writers.Officials said books could be sent to the department by April 30.
