Lady Luck smiled, says spouse

Buying a lottery ticket on the insistence of his wife proved lucky for George Masih, husband of Suman Priya Masih, who won the Punjab State Sawan Bumper -2019.

“I had bought two lottery tickets for her. The lottery seller rang us to announce the good news,” said George.

He added that usually, he bought lottery tickets for his Chandigarh-based friends as lottery was banned there. “This time, my wife insisted that I should buy a lottery ticket. So I bought two tickets and gave them to her. Lady Luck worked,” he said.

George and his wife Suman Priya have been working as senior nursing officers at the PGI, Chandigarh. The couple has two sons. “Our elder son is in Class XII and the younger is in Class V. Our sons are not aware of the windfall,” said George while performing his duty at the PGI today.

The couple said their pastor in a local church had made a prophecy around a fortnight ago that “all our problems, especially related to finance, will come to an end soon”. They added: “Surely, this lottery prize is a God’s gift for us.”

The amount is surely a big sum for this middle-class family, which has decided to use it to buy a good house in a posh area in the tricity.

“At present, we are residing in Mata Gujri Enclave, Kharar. We would shift from here first. We will save the remaining amount for higher studies of our children,” said the couple.
