Mohali, September 25

Two days after the double murder of senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother sent shock-waves across the tricity, the Mohali police today recovered a plastic cover of a kitchen knife near the victims’ residence.

The knife cover was recovered from the garden area of the house located in front of the victims’ residence.

What’s strange is the fact that the knife cover, which could have something to do with the incident, was spotted by mediapersons waiting at the crime scene to speak to police officials on latest developments in the case.

Those residing in the house (located in front of KJ Singh’s residence) feigned ignorance when asked about the knife cover. “It could be related to the crime,” said a senior police official. KJ’s throat was slit and his body bore 17 stabbing injuries and cut marks, while his mother Gurcharan Kaur was strangled.

A neighbour had seen three persons near KJ’s Ford Ikon car at around 9 pm on Friday.

Today, the police also recovered another CCTV footage from a house located in the same lane. As the house owner is away, the police are waiting for him to return. Mohali DSP Alam Vijay Singh said the footage was being scrutinised, but it did not give them any clue as far as the missing car or the miscreants were concerned.

Punjab DGP, IG inspect spot

Punjab DGP (Law and Order) Hardip Singh Dhillon, along with Inspector General Shashi Prabha Dwivedi, in-charge of the special investigation team, constituted to solve the case, visited the crime spot on Monday morning. Senior police officials stayed there for at least half-an-hour. Dhillon said it was a routine visit. “There is nothing much to share. At the moment, I can only say that our teams are on the job. We are working on various theories to solve the case. Any major development in the case

will be shared,” he said. When asked about the Mohali police’s claims of cracking the case, Dhillon said the media should talk to Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal in this regard.

Two CCTV grabs procured earlier failed to be of any help, said the police.

Can’t share leads: SIT in-charge

The IG (Crime) and SIT in-charge Shashi Prabha said: “We have got two-three vital clues, but those can’t be shared right now. Our teams are analysing the call details and CCTV grabs. Let’s see what clues we get from those. So far, we  have nothing to share.”

No traces of car

Even after two days of the murder, the Mohali police have failed to trace KJ Singh’s Ford Ikon car, which the miscreants had taken along. The police are yet to ascertain the time of the crime.

Mohali police avoid media on claims of cracking case

The Mohali police, who until Sunday were claiming to crack the case soon, were seen avoiding the media queries on Monday. “We have nothing to share at the moment,” was the reply of Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal. Following the visit of DGP Dhillon and IG (Crime) Shashi Prabha, the Mohali SSP, along with SP (D) Harbir Singh Atwal, DSP (City 1) Alam Vijay Singh and other officials, remained at the victims’ house for at least three hours.
