Chandigarh, August  11

Local Member of Parliament (MP) Kirron Kher has taken up the issue of Grant of Special Grade Designation (SDG) to constables and head constables of the Chandigarh Police with the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.

In her letter to  Badnore, Kher has mentioned that it has been brought to her notice that constables of the Chandigarh Police have remote chances of promotion, therefore, they were compelled to retire on the same

designation, hardly getting any promotion throughout the service. Due to acute stagnation, constables feel demoralised and it was affecting their efficiency.

She has requested him to direct the authorities concerned  to take necessary action in the matter, so that constables of Chandigarh may not feel discriminated.

While giving the example of Punjab, She has mentioned in her letter that in order to boost morale of constables, the Punjab Government has passed orders to designate its constables as head constables after putting 16 years of service without any monetary benefit or benefit of seniority.

Since the Punjab Service Rules and Pay Scales are already applicable in Chandigarh, if we adopt this order regarding the upgrade of posts of constables to the level of head constables after completion of 16- year regular qualifying service, it will boost the morale of constables of the Chandigarh Police.
